My name is Danbee Kim.

And my ID is pikaole...

(When I made this ID, I have not the least idea of western people use their id for their own user name.)

So, I just wonder how to pronounce my name and ID in other country.

In my country,

'Danbee Kim' is [dan bi gim] ('danbee' means a welcome rain in Korea.)

'pikaole' is [pi ka ol le] (have no meaning. I just wanna~~ some kind of cheerful feeling in that word. Like pi~ka-ol↗le ↘ . lol.)

……………………Maybe a lot of people pronounced [den bI kim] and [paɪ ka ol]    OTL.

Well... I'm from finland and people here pronounce words exactly how they are written. So pikaole is just pi ka o le. If I'd pronounce Danbee Kim in finnish way I would say just Dan bee Kim but somehow it sounds better if I pronounce it in english way: Dan bii Kim.

Eh... I don't know if I explained it right enough 'cause foreign people have troubles understanding finnish pronouncing. :'D

i'd always read it as pika in pikachu, o-le ( 'le' as like 'LEngth' or 'LEnd', not like 'learn' :giggle:) pika-o-le :meow:
and Danbee Kim would be dan - be (like in 'BEar') kim :giggle:

I always pronounced it like pika-ow-lee, the pika like in Pikachu (I hope that makes sence, I have no idea about phonetics :'D). Pretty similar to what =DarthFeatherpants said, but I guess it's because I'm german as well and kinda mixed the english and german pronounciation. C:

That's an interesting question.  I guess I don't pronounce words when I read them.  I've read a lot of books and, even now at 50 years of age, I am occasionally surprised when someone pronounces an obscure (English) word :)

I see.....
In my case, I accept Korean words visually understand.
On the other hand, I read English acoustically understand..!

[pɪkaɒle] [dænbi:  kɪm]  - this is how I read you! But... Why is it pronounced as [gɪm] - with g?

Btw I think you really did fulfill your goal to have a nick with cheerful sound =) I personally imagined pikaole as one of the small birds that you like to draw. Such a nice little kolibri perhaps? Dunno, but *pikaole for me is a little happy bird, and its singing.

Thank you. I'm glad to hear that. a little happy bird, sounds cool XD

I don't know why we used 'kim' instead 'gim'.
It's some kind of custom, i think...

In Ukrainian we pronounce words as they are written, so [pikaole] and [danb(long ee) kim].
